What We Believe

The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod believes, teaches, and confesses that in Christ alone is there salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, on the basis of Scripture alone. To share this message with the world is the mission of the church and the reason for its existence.

We Lutherans Believe, Teach and Confess:

That there is one God, eternally existent in three persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

That the Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God.

That all have sinned and have fallen from God’s grace. As a result, one cannot, by any powers of his own, re-establish a right relationship with God.

That God in His love and mercy sent His Son Jesus Christ, true God and true man, to pay the penalty for the sins of all people by His sacrificial suffering and death upon the cross.

That Jesus Christ rose from the dead as victor over sin, death, and the devil.

That by God’s grace all are saved through faith in Jesus Christ.

That Baptism is divinely instituted washing of regeneration and that by it all who in faith receive this sacrament are given the grace of God, forgiveness of sins, the Holy Spirit, and the promise of eternal life.

That in the Sacrament of Holy Communion the body and blood of Jesus Christ are truly present in and with the bread and wine. When received by the believing Christian, the Lord’s Supper strengthens faith, gives forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation.

That on the last day Jesus Christ will visibly return to judge the living and the dead. All believers in Christ will be given eternal life in heaven, while all unbelievers will be sent into eternal condemnation.

That God “desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:4)
